Third Time's the Charm

Here we go again! After a wonderfully eventful summer, we're leaving early in the morning for a day (more like two) of traveling and we'll arrive in Venice at 9:30 am on Wednesday morning, hopefully with all of our bags following close behind....

Ci vediamo presto, Italy!

One Last Trip to Germany

We took a little trip to Munich for Ryan's birthday (this year we're doing birthday trips, instead of birthday presents - especially now that we have tons and tons to pack all of a sudden...).

It was a beautiful Thursday afternoon so we walked around downtown to stretch our legs after the drive - everyone was out and about, so it was very crowded. We stayed at a funky little hotel right by the center of downtown, which was great and had an interesting breakfast buffet the next morning - lots of creamy spreads and pretzel-y things that we don't have in Italy.

That night we had dinner and drinks at the Hofbrauhaus which neither of us had ever been to, and that was great fun.

Now we're back in Italy for the weekend before leaving on Monday. We're squeezing in one last trip to Venice tomorrow, and then - Arrivederci Italia!

Wine Tasting

We've lived in Italy for two seasons now - IN the Veneto, AND only two hours away from the Sud Tirol - and we've never been wine tasting. Pathetic. We decided to fix that yesterday and drove to Bolzano with Stacy, Derek and Baby Gracie to taste some delicious wines from the Alto Adige-Sud Tirol region.

First we stopped at the Girlan winery and then made our way to St. Paul's for a little more. We tasted whites (Chardonnay, Biaca Riserva, Sauvignon) and reds (Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Lagrein - my favorite wine of all time) and a dessert wine, Rosenmuskateller (lots of German up there in Bolzano).

We bought a few of our favorites to take home....adding to our already large load - oh well. We also got to eat dinner at a restaurant where you sit in huge wine barrels (awesome).

Next up: Munich tomorrow for Ryan's birthday!

Happy Easter Weekend!

Buona Pasqua! Easter weekend is the last big weekend in Cortina so it's just as crowded here as it was at Christmas and New Years. Unfortunately for all the visitors, it's very, very rainy, so no skiing.

We're the last remaining imports in Cortina! We leave April 8 and in our last 10 days we're working on packing, skiing, and squeezing in a few more day trips. More on that next week.

Today we learned the proper Italian way to cook our Easter lamb - lemon, rosemary and sage - so that's what we'll be doing tomorrow on this rainy Easter day!

Skiing and Sunning

We had a HUGE snowstorm on Sunday and Monday that left us with about 20 inches of snow. Tuesday it cleared up and was absolutely gorgeous so it was the perfect day to ski and sun - love the end of the season!

It's Allllll Over

The 2012-2013 season came to an end last night in Val Pellice. Oh WELL! The highlight of playoffs was definitely beating Renon, so this wasn't unexpected, just slightly disappointing.

Not sure what the next three weeks hold for us (aside from skiing, some last few glasses of prosecco, dinner with friends before we go our separate ways, and the dreaded packing up of the apartment) - our flight home is for April 8, but since this is Italy, we don't know if they'll change our flight for earlier or just leave it as is. We'll see. In any case - ci vediamo presto, USA!
