Scottish Borders

Last week we went on a little adventure....

For Christmas, my mom gave Ryan a little getaway to the Scottish Borders region which was perfect because it's only about an hour an a half away from us. We haven't done too much exploring lately so we were thrilled...

The first stop was Melrose, where we stayed at the George and Abbotsford Hotel. The Borders region is best known for Abbotsford, the home of Sir Walter Scott (which was unfortunately closed for the winter) and for the four famous abbeys located in different towns there. We went to Melrose Abbey first, where you're supposed to find the pig playing bagpipes (we did)...

The next morning, we continued on to Dryburgh Abbey which was way out in the countryside, right by the River Tweed:

Sir Walter Scott is buried at Dryburgh Abbey - the photo above is of his grave. Surprisingly, the gray weather made for the perfect backdrop and we had both abbeys completely to ourselves which was great. On the way home, we stopped in Peebles which was a really cute town and a recommended stop if you're ever in the area!

We're planning on one or two more getaways before the baby comes - next up: Glasgow!
