How to Fly With a Newborn
Everett was four and a half weeks old when we took him on the airplane for the first time - and it was a long trip - from Scotland back to Colorado for the summer. Prior to flying, I read a lot of blog posts with advice on flying with babies: what to do with them, what to pack for them, how to pop their ears....for the most part, it was helpful but the thing about babies is that they're always changing! I'm putting together my own set of tips for flying with babies, but at different stages. First up: newborns.

BACK
You guys, we are back! I can't believe it's been six months since I wrote a blog post. The time has flown by. Time to catch up!
Since we were last on here, we went home to Steamboat Springs, Colorado where we live in the summers. We had such a fun first summer with Everett. We went on hikes, took him swimming for the first time - actually there were a lot of firsts for him! - and just generally enjoyed everything Steamboat has to offer in the summer.
Last May, Ryan signed back with his team in Scotland, the Fife Flyers, for a second season. So! Now we're back in Scotland. We've been here for about a month and we're all settled in for this upcoming season and ready to get back to the blog.
More on that tomorrow. But for now, here are a few fun pictures from the summer, if you'd like to see...

Everett
We are so thrilled to announce that Everett Hayes Dingle was born on March 6 at 12:29 am.
We're so in love with this little guy! These past few weeks have flown by as we've gotten used to each other and adjusted to our new family. It's hard to believe that it's time to start packing up and heading back to Colorado for the spring and summer, but it is and we're heading back on April 7. In the next few weeks, I'll be sharing a look back on this season in Scotland, which has really been a great one. Thanks for all of the support this season and for the nice words on our baby boy! xo

A New Year
Happy New Year! Hope everyone had a great one. We've been busy this holiday season and things are finally starting to fall back into a normal routine....here are a few pictures, if you'd like to see:
My parents were here for 10 days around Christmas, and we had lots of fun showing them around. We took them to the Edinburgh Christmas Market (above) and we also did a day trip to Anstruther for fish and chips and back to Edinburgh another day to see the Royal Yacht Britannia, which was really fun.
Since it was Christmas, we also spent a lot of time at the grocery store, prepping, cooking, last minute gift shopping and RELAXING! Ryan had a few games too - we gave my dad a jersey to wear and he gave Ryan a Scotland bowtie for Christmas, so the two of them were very festive looking:
Then my parents flew back to Boston a few days after Christmas and Ryan and I spent the rest of 2015 taking long afternoon naps! I'm feeling pretty good at 32 weeks now, but I'm definitely tired - a lot. We were lucky to have a beautiful New Years Day (!!) so I went for a long walk on the beach to ring in 2016 which is a year we're very excited for!
So! I'm cutting back a bit in 2016 as we prepare for the baby's arrival. I'm going to be posting once per week until the middle of February when I'm going to take some time off blogging completely to focus on our newest family member.
Happy 2016!

Gifts for the Traveler
A little gift guide for you today, if you're looking for gift ideas for any travelers....
1. This weekender bag from Lo & Sons is one of my favorites. As an over-packer, short trips or weekend trips can be tough for me packing-wise, but this bag is truly the perfect size - and there's a secret compartment at the bottom for dirty clothes....or extras.
2. Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones - for those plane rides when you just want to sleep.
3. Currency! For whatever country they're traveling to next. Having a little cash on hand and not worrying about exchanging money right away is always so convenient. {Image via}
4. A world map and push pins so they can mark down where they've been.
5. A monogrammed luggage tag - one of those fun little things that you wouldn't normally buy for yourself.
6. A guidebook to the next place they're going....while Rick Steves has definitely saturated the guidebook market, rarely has he steered us wrong.
7. A journal for keeping notes during trips, holidays and vacations.
8. Good walking shoes. These are on my list this year....
9. A cross-body bag - perfect for sightseeing and balances out the weight better than a bag worn on one shoulder.

News
Kicking off this week with some exciting news: Ryan and I are having a baby in February!
We're beyond excited for this next adventure, although right now, February still feels a looooong way away. The baby will be born here, in Scotland, and we'll return to the US in April. Looking forward to lots of exciting times to come...hopefully this baby is a good traveler! xo

Storm Peak Brewery
Personally, we're getting into Scottish beer now, but let's take it back to Colorado for a second. There's been a huge shift towards craft breweries in Colorado in the past few years - apparently the state is home to almost 230 breweries and is responsible for more than 10% of the nation's craft breweries. Hooray! Steamboat isn't missing out on this trend either, with two breweries: Butcherknife Brewing Company and Storm Peak Brewing Company.
We hung out at Storm Peak a few times this summer and it was so much fun - you can try small glasses of their beers (or have a big one!), there's a popcorn machine for snacks, dogs are welcome and there are big picnic tables where you can sit and hang out with friends.
A few other perks: the building faces the sun and gets the sun all day long. They have corn hole, which you can drag out into the driveway and play with friends. And there's a tiny Mexican restaurant, Taco Cabo, right across the street so if you get hungry you can run out and grab a few tacos to go and bring them back to your picnic table to snack on.
On September 5th, they're celebrating their one year anniversary, so stop by if you're in Steamboat that weekend!
PS - The photos are by my friend Danielle, a Steamboat-based photographer, who can make even beer look beautiful! If you need any photos, definitely check her out.

Overnight Plane Essentials
Now that we're a few days away from going to Scotland (!!), we're finally starting to pack. We've had a few packing horror stories in the past: the first year we flew to Italy, Ryan packed all of his clothes in his carry on, which the airline ended up making him check. Of course that was the one bag that got lost during the trip, so for the first four days that we were in Cortina, Ryan had to wear the same clothes every day. Another time, one of my bags got lost and when I got it back, it had the most exotic tags on it, from places all around the world - one tag was even in Arabic!
But now we've pretty much got the packing thing mastered - we check our larger bags, carry on small roller bags with a few sets of clothing in them in case the checked bags get lost (I just ordered this one and I'm so excited to use it!), and then I always pack a small bag for the plane. After countless overnight flights, here's what I've found I like to have on hand:
1. Face wipes to wash your face with before you fall asleep. As an avid face washer, I find it makes a huge difference to be able to "wash" you face on the plane.
2. Planes are so drying for skin, so I always put lotion on my face a few times during an overnight flight - usually before I fall asleep and then again when we land.
3. Cozy socks! I always take my shoes off on overnight flights, but my feet tend to get really cold on planes so I always bring a big pair of socks.
4. Headphones - for all those movies you'll end up watching.
5. A scarf that can be used as a blanket. I always bring my biggest, comfiest scarf to wrap around me while I sleep...so much better than scratchy airplane blankets. This one looks cozy.
6. An eye mask to block out light for better sleeping.
7. Disposable toothbrushes! We discovered these a few years ago and love them - you can brush your teeth with no water and then throw the brush away when you're done.
8. Hand sanitizer, because obviously....how nice does this one look?!
9. Snacks. I've been digging these Kind bars all summer.
10. A water bottle. It's so important to stay hydrated on long flights, so we always bring water bottles to fill up before we get on the plane. We bought two of these this summer and they've been great.
And, this year I ordered this great bag to put it all in, which I think will also be great for weekend trips once we get there.

What's Your Favorite Happy Hour?
When we lived in Italy, we got into the tradition of "aperitivo" which
is drinks and snacks in the early evening before dinner, and the American
equivalent of that is happy hour. Steamboat, where we live in the summers, is one of the best places for happy hours, so we love to ride our bikes downtown in the late afternoon to check them out. There are so many options: you can sit by the river or in the center of downtown, you can opt for margaritas or beer or wine, you can have a snack before dinner or you can even turn some of them into an early dinner.
A few of our favorites include E3 where you can sit in Adirondack chairs by the river and drink half-priced wine and munch on truffle fries and Sake2U where you can eat sushi rolls for half the price (we usually turn this into an early dinner).
But - our top choice is always Carl's which has great Colorado beer, 50 cent wings and $2 oysters. Oysters and wings sounds like a strange combination, but surprisingly, it works.
What's your favorite happy hour combo? Summer is the perfect time for it!
And PS - our go-to summertime drink....

2 Years
Today is our two year anniversary! I was looking back at our wedding pictures this morning and thought I'd share a few, if you'd like to see....
What a day! I remember being so antsy and jittery and excited. We got married outside at Cherokee Ranch and Castle in Sedalia, Colorado and it was so beautiful...then, right when we moved into the tent for dinner, it started pouring (which is actually supposed to be lucky, so we weren't too worried).
Ryan, you are absolutely the best.

Summer Adventuring
Summer is the best time for adventures - our favorite thing to do is hop in the car and take off for a few days. Once we took a trip to Colorado wine country; another time we explored Moab and the Grand Canyon. I love road trips (especially when I'm the passenger!) and summer is the perfect time to take a few. We put together a list of our road trip essentials - perfect for summer adventuring.
1. The best CD for long, relaxed drives
2. A water bottle, to fill up wherever you stop
3. I just bought these sunglasses for the summer, and I'm obsessed. (And, if you're a glasses or contact lens wearer, like we both are, prescription sunglasses are great for traveling and adventuring)
4. A journal so you remember everything
5. Rubber flip flops - easy to throw on for exploring and even easier to kick off in the car
6. A swim suit, for those times you find yourself by the ocean or a lake or a hot spring (top + bottom)
7. SNACKS! The best part of any road trip
8. A big bag that you can throw everything in and take with you when you go exploring
9. A Leatherman...for everything
10. Camera (and phone!) for taking pictures of anything and everything you see and do
Where are you off to this summer?! We went on our annual adventure trip earlier this month and we're heading east to visit family in July....
